The Steam Deck Is Still My Favorite Handheld Ever.

I have been gaming for as long as I can remember. I have had almost every handheld console that has been put out by a major brand. From the original Game Boy to the Nintendo Switch. There is something special about being able to game on the go. When the Steam Deck first came out I didn’t really look into it. After buying and using a ROG Ally for a few months though I thought the Steam Deck deserved a real shot.

About a week after deciding I wanted a Steam Deck the OLED edition was revealed and available for pre-order. I jumped right on it and got the 1TB OLED Special Edition. As soon as I opened the box for it I was brought back to playing the original Game Boy in my parents car on road trips. There was something so amazing about having all of these games available anywhere I went. Now I tend to play more on my Steam Deck then my main gaming PC.

Although it is starting to show its age and newer games do not run as smooth as I would like, there is something so wonderful about having this device near me. After having knee surgery a few weeks ago walking to my computer to play a game was too painful. However with the Steam Deck Dock I was able to play games on my bedroom TV.

If you are not trying to play the most demanding games possible then there are thousands of games that you can play. With all of the cloud services available you can even stream games that are not compatible with the system if you have fast enough internet. A few tweaks and plug-ins and the Steam Deck becomes very personalized.

The best part is the custom version of Linux that Valve has used to run on the Steam Deck. You can use it just like a handheld console or even go into a desktop mode and do anything you can on a computer.

With new handhelds coming out that are starting to get support from Valve with their own SteamOS images I can’t wait to see what the competition starts to look like. Will my next handheld be a Steam Deck 2? Or will another company make a better handheld that uses Steams custom OS. Either way I am super excited for the future of hand held gaming.
